    Nightmare

Last night, I had a nightmare. I was really thirsty and so I found a glass and poured a big glass of water from the tap and started gulping it down. THEN I realise I am in Cairo and, given my delicate constitution, I will be sitting with my head down the loo for days on end after this. So I then spend the rest of the dream in dread of the impending illness...c::

    What does it mean ,r:;

Person in possession of silver lining goes in search of black cloud ? Dunno. Maybe in your life you're looking forward to something and your subconsicous is concerned that there is an unsuspected downside. Lack of confidence, ie something always comes along and spoils everything.

Or maybe you were dreaming of cairo and got a bit of indigestion.

I googled around on water as a dream symbol and mostly found info about lakes, rivers streams and some conflicting ideas about drinking water.

Personally, I think dream symbolism is always going to be unique to the dreamer.

The consensus was that drinking water represents your own spirit, femininity or emotions. So in this case, you're fearing that one of those things might go bad, hurt you, or make you ill?

Maybe you're in the process of coming to terms with some thoughts or feelings that are unpleasant? Or are about to, and your subconcious is warning you to go slowly?

I'd say this is the key:

"So I then spend the rest of the dream in dread of the impending illness"

Are you the type to worry about something so much you talk yourself out of doing it? Or do you focus on the things you must do first or the proper protocol that you eliminate things before giving them a chance?

Sounds like a "missing the good for worrying about the bad" type of message.

Interesting point! You don't mention actually getting sick in the dream. What makes it a nightmare is the worry, isn't it?

side note about worry (probably not helpful, just babbling now): I work really hard to release worry, as it's a pretty useless emotion that generates a lot of negative energy. My mom taught me to think of the worst that could happen, think of what you'd do if that happened, then let it go.

Worry is just making up bad things and then getting all upset about your own imaginings as if they were really happening.

Thanks so much for the thoughts. Yes I worry a lot, often I wake at 6am with my mind racing. Lauren, your mum sounds great. My mum on the other hand is a terrible worrier, and tries to get others to worry in a sort of bizarre delegation effort. And also, yes my spirit is about to get a big knock due to non bellydance things which are due to complete end October this year.

I must admit I expected Tina or LisaJ to come on and say that it means I went to bed and left the tap running or suchlike !!!!!!!!!!!

Caroline, try it! I know it's really hard to change lifelong mindpatterns that you were raised with (believe me, I know!)

But when you wake at 6am worrying, give yourself this little routine.
    1) What, realistically, is the very worst thing that can happen?
    2) What will I do if that happens? Make a little plan.
    3) Let the worry go. I have a friend who visualizes putting her troubles in a brown paper bag and physically handing them off to God. Whatever works for you. I chide myself for being silly "there I go, making stuff up and getting upset about it as if it really happened."
    4) Consciously turn your mind to some other task. Planning a class. trying to remember a choreography. I have techniques from yoga for quieting my mind (progressively relaxing the body, focusing on the breath) but it's easier just to give it a task to do.

(I don't mean to sound so bossy. You could, of course, not do any of this!)

I had a dream that I got a sunburn on my face, and it was very disturbing to me. I think because to me a sunburn is an impossible misfortune under normal circumstances. In the dream, I was really distressed, like "how could this have happened to me?" and I didn't know what to do..

haha ha, if only that were the biggest problem in the world to worry about!

It means you worry about getting sick in Cairo......your subconcious is telling you that in your dreams.....even though you don't externalize it... this something that makes you worried and your brain is spilling out through your dreams so you can deal with the fear!

    that's my theory
