Re: Photo essay on Yemen
2008 was the year Liverpool was European City of Culture and as part of the Arabic Arts Festival in the July there was a wonderful photo exhibition of the Yemen. We have a sizeable community here and some have returned and the photos refelected life of the Yememis in Liverpool in the early days and the place they left behind and some returned to. Some wonderful images!

Very beautiful and fascinating photos; thank you for posting. It was a bit sad to see the comment posted by the person who seemed to see the whole photoessay as nothing but a reason to angrily grind their feminist axe. But then nice to see the very thoughtful responding comment.

Re: Photo essay on Yemen
Great photos, and a well thought out response to the blinkered 'feminist' poster. The first photo shows one of the main aterial 'roads' in Sana'a, though its a wadi, and it is a scary experience to cross it. The photo of the camel is in a sesame seed mill near the souq. The camel is inside a dark room hitched to the grinder. I'm surprised it can even get outside as the door's quite low. Not much of life for the poor camel.
