Thread: New York City- Shopping, etc.?

Hey-

I think I'm heading to NYC this Monday through Wednesday. What do you recommend in terms of shopping or other fun dance stuff? I'm open to anything that's accessible by mass transit. Thanks!

If you're leaving thursday morning check out Dalia Carella's class at 6:30-8PM at 440 studios (by st. marks place.) Jehan Kamal also teaches Wednesday night on the Upper West side of Manhattan (don't have exact address.)

For bead shopping check out all the shops between 39th and 36th streets between 5th and 6th avenues. There are also tons of cool jewlery (wholesale prices!!) stores with blingy necklaces, tiara's and hair accessories.

The fabric section of the garment district is in the same area between 8th and broadway (check out Spandex house for total overload.) You can haggle at most fabric stores to get lower prices.

Little India is on east 28th street (it goes as high as 30th and as low as 26th street) between Park and Lexington. Check out the stores for bindi's, saris and other sparkly goodies.

Tanya - you seem to know your way around thie city. I've been looking to replace my chinese jacket that I bought out in San Francisco years ago. Does the Chinatown area have some clothing stores or is it all restaurants like Little Italy?

Chinatown has pretty much taken over Little Italy, you'll find pretty much anything. Be warned that many of the places that sell clothing are aimed at tourists and tend to overcharge. If you go on the less traveled streets (the tiny side ones) you'll probably be able to find what you're looking for at a cheaper price.

Good info. I guess Little Italy is getting tinier and tinier. I was only there once and it seemed to be just restaurants. I keep thinking about how it appeared in the Godfather. Doesn't look like that now.
