It might help if you stated what area you are planning to visit...if you are in Cairo, I hear good things about staying with Yasmina. I think Lorna rents rooms out also. Elsewhere - Tripadvisor is a good resource, if you haven't already checked.

I am also planning to go to Egypt end of March, I've been there before and stayed in Victoria hotel and Ramses Palace which is from the same compagny as Victoria. There both near the train station. Victoria is in a quiet street, and is not expensive, altough the employees start being not so friendly as before.

End of march I will stay in arbian nights hotel (Cheap hotel - Arabian Nights Hotel Cairo ). I searched a lot of sites and this one had reasonable comments. I don't know if you go before me or after me. Else I can let you know if this was a good place to stay or not.
