Re: Anyone gone to Egypt alone?? need advice
Antinal is the anti-trot medicine we were recommended in Luxor. Immodium was just useless and as a hotel employee said you need an Egyptian rememdy for an Egyptian ailment!
You are advised though to take rehydration sachets.
Tummy bugs of course need to be expelled..you just don't want that to happen on a coach trip.
On tripadvisor there is some comment on Antinal with some people having an adverse reaction but that's the same with every drug.I'm allergic to Flagyl as are many people. In the case of tummybugs you are more likely to need anti-bacterial drugs rather than antibiotic surely?
Also some bottled waters in Egypt as anywhere else contain mineral content that may affect your system at least at first.
Something I never drink at home, I relish in North Afric and that's dear old coca-cola..the real stuff left to go flat and warm. I lived on that for 4 days in Morocco after the worst attack of the Marakkesh express (in Agadir).
I also see some people advising mint tea to cure the stomach issues.NO NO unless you see that kettle boiling away and the mint is ...well how can you tell?

Re: Anyone gone to Egypt alone?? need advice
Hi to all those out there wondering whether to come alone to Cairo. I set up my 'Dancers' B&B' for exactly you! You will have a clean comfortable place to stay (with a great view of the pyramids) but more importantly, somewhere friendly and welcoming to come back to each time you go out, where all your questions will be answered and I try to help you acheive all your dance-related goals in Cairo (plus sightseeing etc as well). More often than not I can link you up with other dancers to go out with to see shows etc. Many of the teachers come to teach you here in my studio (plus you get discounted rates for classes from me)- and we provide your meals as well, whenever is convenient for you. I organize your costumier bookings, and if you need photos - well, I'm here for that too! I can take up to four dancers at one time, but if you want to come with husband, partner or even children, that's OK too. I'm here all year round except July and August. So what are you waiting for girls! See you in Cairo....Yasmina

Egypt is safe enough. You should close your body with clothes (no any short skirts or t-shirts, no opened belly etc.) and don't smile to any man on the street. Don't forget that you are alone and egyptians suppose definite things in their minds about foreign women .
20 pound is maximum for taxi if you travelling inside Cairo (10-15 minutes drive)
Try to find some people in Facebook, there is a big commiunitie of belly dance people.

Re: Anyone gone to Egypt alone?? need advice
I have been to Cairo on my own six years ago. I did not know anyone there are stayed in a hostel. I met others there to go out with and was fine. I was 22 and did not dance yet.
As said before, you need to cover your cleavage and 3/4 of your arms and legs and wear things a bit roomier than at home. You may also want to wear hair in a plait or updo and avoid being too flirtatious.
My lonely planet pocket dictionary of Egyptian Arabic was atreasure I would not want to be without. You can always find an English speaker, usually male, but if there are women who want to talk to you, they can use it is reverse too.
I did not have problems with the tummy, though I did get throat issues on my final day. I found a pharmacy and used the dictionary to explain what ailed me, and the medicine worked well.
I loved shopping in Cairo, but you do need to negotiate well. The food is also great and it is not an expensive country at all. I spent maybe 100E for 9 days and ate and bought what I wanted.

Re: Anyone gone to Egypt alone?? need advice
Thanks to everyone for the advice :) I'm actually going with one friend now, so I feel a bit less nervous.
I'm so excited! I leave June 7th - July 12th. If any dancers here on Bhuz will be there let me know, we can hook up for some outings.
