I am going to Egypt, been before but this time would like to go to visit Cairo, do some shopping of course ..g.: also visit pyramids, but also top up my tan & maybe relax on the beach.
Anyone recommend a good way of doing both, or which area which is nearby to Cairo with a beach?
Thanks, any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: Travelling To Egypt.
Cairo is where you need to be for the pyramids, and the shopping, Cairo has NO beach, it's in the middle of the desert, with the Nile providing the water. But the 5 star hotels have swimming pools where you can sunbathe & swim.
If beach is important to you, then you'll need to be in Sharm or Hurghada.

Actually you don't have to go as far as Sharm or Hurgada. There's a huge beach resort area just an hour away from Cairo.. it's called Ain il Sukhna. It's loaded with foreigners and Egyptians, and there are great beaches where you can wear your swim suit (not your abaya). Here are some names of resorts you can ask about when you get here.... Stella di Mare, Wadi Degla, Palmeira, Cancun... hope this helps.

Re: Travelling To Egypt.
I haven't done Ein Sokhna but I hear its less than 2 hrs drive so you can do a day trip. Dahab is also amazing, excellent, relaxed getaway, but pretty far out in the Sinai. Sharm is nice but expensive, Hurgada can be fun but can also be stricken with European package-tourism kind of people that make it less casual and chilled out like Dahab. You can go out to Alexandria too in about 2 hrs by car or train, they have nice beaches and there are ones you can hang out in a bikini on as long as you ask the guy you pay to get in if that's ok. They'll let you know if it's a beach where you can or not.
I've done Hurgada, Sharm, and Alex, the info is on my blog if you're curious: NicoleInCairo.Blogspot.com. Might find something useful!
