Hula dance in Maui -- suggestions?

I'll be in Maui from the 22 to the 27 of November. Anybody have any suggestions as to where to see some good Hula. I'd also like to take at least one lesson.
    Thanks!
    Shivaun

Funnily enough, I was just coming to post with a similar question ... except that I'm in Honolulu, right now. Maybe someone can help both of us!

Hi Ladies; Just came back from both islands several months ago. Shivaun: Maui is the BEST. The most authentic show you will see is in Old Lanaui (hope spelling is right) It is fabulous and includes a pig roast and open bar(don't drink mixed cocktails though)Their info is in all the tourist magazines.--Also; do yourself a favor and rent or buy a really good set of snorkel gear and go to Black Rock--I'd go back just to snorkel!!Oh and don't miss the Road to Hana-if you love nature, and want to have a dream come true by swimming in the waters of a pool under the waterfalls
Brooklyn; I have to say that there was no authentic lua in Honalulu-The Rainbow towers where we stayed, had theirs on the roof of the parking garage (which we had to endure seeing every night from our balcony--it was a joke)-rent a car instead and go travel the ocean roads and stop at beaches along the way. Jessenia, who owns Akai silks lives in Honalulu-perhaps she has some hidden gem info.

Re: Hula dance in Maui -- suggestions?

Hi, our whole family was in Maui a week in October (my son's wedding) and there is hula EVERYWHERE - even the free shows at shopping malls are actually very good and include Tahitian as well.

We liked the luau at the "Lahaina Resort" - two stages, excellent performances of various styles of hula, Maori, Tahitian and the fire dance was stunning. The food was very good and the outdoor theatre area seats up to 300. Well worth the $79 per person price.

My daughter was in hula and Tahitian for 10 years so we've seen lots of it here in California, competitions and festivals, etc. She told me the Maui hula was "better, faster, more precise in every way and costumes were gorgeous". I was particularly impressed by the hand and arm work which was graceful and absolutely precise for the whole troupe, including male dancers.

Sorry, I don't know where to recommend hula lessons; we weren't there long enough to find out!
