Its only the bellydance world that's obsessed with Egypt and/or Turkey, the Middle East holds so much more if you're interested in culture, music, dance and especially politics and history. Once you're in Jordan make sure you get to:
    - Petra: the Nabeteans carved this city out of the rock, its an engineering marvel. The site is huge and you'll walk till you drop but once you've seen the Treasury you can die happy :-)
    - Karak Castle: built by the Crusaders,
    - Wadi Rum: another must see, its quite 'other worldly' and if you're lucky you'll meet Bedu and be invited in for sage tea
    - Amman: the capital of Jordan (some great souqs for browsing and haggling)
    - Jerash: breathtaking Roman ruins, and real chariot races
    - Madaba: ancient mosaics
    - The Dead Sea and the River Jordan
    - Mt Nebo: where Moses first saw the promised land
    - Aqaba: for diving

There are bellydancers performing in most of the big hotels in Amman, all the dancers are 'foreigners' from what I've been told. I don't know of any teachers.

What Aziza said! I didn't get to the castle or Wadi Rum, but did get to the other places she mentioned and they are amazing!

    so was Jordan?
would love to go there next time i go to the Middle East, last year i was in Lebanon and in Syria and just loved it. I traveled alone and that was the best thing i could have done. will go alone again or maybe take a girlfriend but not a guy, or won't get spoiled at all.
    Wish you the best!!
