Dancers that rent out a room in Cairo?

Anyone know? I would much rather stay with another dancer than a hotel by myself...

You could ask Astryd deMichele. She can probably advise you.

Astryd Farah deMichele ~ International Middle Eastern Dance Artist

Alternatively, I think a lot of dancers use the Victoria Hotel.

Try Yasmina of Cairo. I'll track down her website.

Hi, I am wondering if anyone has updated information on this topic... a ballpark budget for sucha thing would also be great information.

I read one of the other bhuz blogs, and it sounded like hotel rooms can be got for $400-500 USD monthly. Is that about the same as renting a room from a dancer?

    thank you!

That's interesting...I'm planning a long stay in Cairo myself and would love to hear more about this if anyone has info to share. Seems awfully cheap for a hotel, but I have no idea.

Yep, would second Yasmin of Cairo, had a chat with her in Spetember about staying with her and it sounds wonderful! You should pm Bellydancingcaroline, she'll be able to tell you more.

Amera has an apartment in Cairo that has views of the Pyramids. She would also have a handy contacts list for you as well.

Yasmina is a wonderful person to stay with. Her place is very near the Pyramids, and if it's private lessons you are after, it seems there are a few teachers in that area (e.g. Lubna Eman). I've stayed there and I loved it.

I have heard that they all bunk in one apt. and share the rent. The most desireable area is Mohansideen or The Garden District.

If you are looking into hotels on a monthly rate, I highly recommended Hotel Longchamps in Zamalek. The Hotel Longchamps Home Page, and Egypt Hotel

I have stayed there twice, and definitely plan to stay there any time I am in Cairo - the staff is so awesome, the rooms are really nice, and it is a small hotel (only 30 rooms) on the 5th floor of an apartment building. Their monthly rates are very good.

I prefer to stay in Zamalek, it's a short cab ride almost anywhere, and there is lots of great shopping and restaurants. It also has a lot of embassies and expats, including a pub (Pub 28) for when homesickness strikes and you want a steak and a drink.

Hi everyone, this is Yasmina. Yes, I do have rooms for dancers to stay in, plus I offer many services you need for your total Cairo dance experience! As well as the room you get a mirrored dance studio to practice in, and some teachers will come to teach you here, so no need to go trekking around the city every day. Other teachers and costumiers are very close by, such as Aida Nour, Lubna, Randa, Hallah Moustafa, Aziz and others. If you need someone to take you to other addresses (ateliers, the market, other teachers etc) I can provide an escort - sometimes a really cute one! I arrange your itinerary, book you to see shows, have classes etc., plus I offer a discount on lessons for those staying with me. The food is home made and the atmosphere is friendly and creative. You need to not mind cats (I have two), but I can now pass on the sad news that my son's guinea pig has passed away, so no more squeaking from the hutch next to the twin bedroom! There is lots of space with two large roof terraces, views of the pyramids, and now a private guest kitchen as well.
I travel during July and August, so if anyone wishes to rent the entire place (it sleeps up to 8 people) they can apply to me. I also manage two other apartments very close by belonging to friends, that can be rented for short or longer periods.
To see pictures and read reviews about the B&B, check out my website Yasmina of Cairo under the 'News and Events' section.
    See you in Cairo!

I'd like to add that I took a workshop with Yasmina last weekend and she's an awesome person. If you don't know your way around Caïro yet, stay at her place! she can arrange classes for you and knows all the ins and outs of the dance scene.

Having someone who knows how things work is essential if you want to make the most of your trip.

Yasmina doesn't show up here very often! It would be best to email her, through ther site, if you want a specific answer.

Thanks for the input. I`ll call her when I decide to go.

Not to be totally off topic:

Deyana Tarkhan (Diana) is another dancer and master teacher to contact about stay in Cairo. She has also a home studio - all dancers have that I suppose - and she is wonderful teacher who knows just about everybody in Cairo and can help your dance greatly.

so what would be a cost of renting a place in either Yasmina's or others you have mentioned or hotel + food+ others for about a month or so?
How much the average private classes with some famous teachers?
    thanks,
