Thread: best/cheapest way to get air tickets from US to cairo in summer?

I am going to sign up for Sahra's JTE 3&4 at the end of June-early July from the east coast and was wondering if anyone had any advice/tips for the best way/cheapest way to buy air tickets round trip?

I know when I went to Tunisia we flew AirFrance, stopping in Paris, and I've heard that's usually a cheaper way to do it.. but I'm having troubles trying to figure this all out on my own... is there typically a 'cheaper' month to buy tickets, certain airline, anything else? I looked up the philly, baltimore, and DC airports and it looks like flying out of DC is cheapest (that's what my Arabic class did for Tunisia too.) Any advice would be awesome and appreciated, thanks!!! :)

First of all, buy early, but not too early. In the next 2 months, start looking for fare deals. Also remember that flying mid week is cheaper and pricing and buying mid week is as well.

Do you have any affiliations with airlines? EX: American code shares with BA. So if you have points (miles) you may be able to get a ticket that way. Although for those I highly suggest you get them now. My experience is that points / miles tickets sell out quickly.

If you know a qualified travel agent, I would highly suggest that you have a long talk with them, even if you don't engage their services. They may be able to take you through some loops.

just expect to pay around $1,200. Although there is one alternative, which is to try via Pricelines bidding. You may find a better deal, but you may also be looking at a long and slightly convoluted flight in order to get a better deal. Although, not necessarily.

What airport are you flying out of? I usually fly Egypt Air out of JFK - it's direct to cairo & usually runs btwn $7 to 800 bucks...

The cheapest way I know to get from the U.S. to Egypt is to go on EgyptAir from New York nonstop to Cairo. Of course, that means people who don't live in New York will also have to figure out arrangements for getting from wherever they live to JFK airport in New York.

I personally choose to pay a bit more and go on Lufthansa because the two times I've flown on EgyptAir I had bad experiences (3-hour delays that made me miss connecting flights and then hassles with rebooking me on replacement flights). Maybe other people have had good experiences on EgyptAir, I just know that it will be a long time before I give them another try.

Tickets within the US tend to be most expensive for flights that occur on Monday and Friday because those days are particularly busy for business travelers.
