    NYC Shopping

I'd appreciate shopping advice for an upcoming New York trip. Of course, I have been to the NYC fashion district many times, so often that I should have a personal bag storage cubby at Mood :-) And, need I mention that know Bellydance America? But, I am would like to expand my horizon, and am looking for hidden gems: In particular, a Turkish store - a place where one can buy evil eye paraphernalia, painted bowls and all that. And, are there must-visit Indian stores? Maybe even Indian thrift stores? I once made it out to Jackson Heights, which was great fun. Thanks lots for all advice.

You might like to try the Journal Square area of Jersey City in New Jersey. There is a huge Indian community there with lots of fabulous clothing and jewelry shops.
It's easy to get to from Manhattan. Just take the Path train to Journal Square. From downtown it takes about 10-15 minutes.

Rashid's (music store) in Brooklyn is worth a jaunt. Many of my best and most random (in a good way) dance VHS tapes came from his store.

    Re: NYC Shopping

I am back home, from a wonderful weekend with Dalia Carella and Amel Tafsout.

We made it to Journal Square, which was great fun and very easy to reach - it's a short subway ride from the World Trade Center memorial. There are two blocks full of cool stores, one needs to go to the 700/800 block of Newark Avenue. We had delicious lunch at Dosa Hut. Their dosas easily serve two and the salty lassi was like a cold spicy soup - yum! I did not have enough time for Rashid's, but it's on the list for next time. Thanks lots again for the advice!
