Re: Yemen
WOW! amazing photos!! I'll check out your blog later too. What an opportunity to be able to visit Yemen and the other gulf countries! I couldn't find the clip of the dagger dance, just the photos. Any hints?

Re: Yemen
Hi
The clip of the men's dance is in the "Yemen 2" gallery and is linked to the 9th photo (the third one in the third row).
I'm really glad you've enjoyed the blog and the photos. It was such a wonderful experience in Yemen and I'm happy to be able to share it.

Re: Yemen
hi aziza, i am curious - is yemen easy to get to from egypt? how long does it take by water, air, etc? I took a class on islamic architecture and just loved the sides of yemen.
would it be feasible for a tourist to combine a trip to cairo with a stay in sanaa?

Re: Yemen
Hi Lotus
You could definitely combine a side trip to Yemen from Cairo. If you're interested in architecture, then the tower houses of Old Sana'a will be a life highlight. Yemenia, the national airline of Yemen, has return flights from Cairo to Sana'a as does EgyptAir. The flight time is about 3 hours.
Travel by sea - if you could find a freighter that would take you - is something you wouldn't want to do.........

Re: Yemen
Thanks! Loved it! Playing in the band at a Yemeni wedding in the San Francisco Bay Area, I saw this same dance done by the men in traditional garb, just like in your clip. It was so exciting I almost lost the rhythm while playing! It's interesting to see that in the homeland they dance it the same way - or should I say that in America they still dance it the same way as in the homeland?
