I would like to call your attention to this:
Professional Belly Dance Costume From Egypt BELLYDANCE - eBay (item 110174360532 end time Jan-18-09 00:06:56 PST)
Beautiful costume right? Funny how people have been emailing me asking if I can make a costume like this for them.
You see I took those pictures several years ago when my good friend Roxxanne asked me to sell that costume for her on ebay. She had it made in Cairo. I sold it and all was well.
Next thing I know this seller:
Luxor_bazar is selling the costume using my photos. You can easily tell that they are mine although this new seller watermarked them. I have asked luxor_bazar not to steal my photos. They outright refused.
They have also stolen photos off of turquoise international and other sites.
The problem is they claim they will make you this costume in 4-6 weeks.
I always regretted not buying the turquoise from Roxxanne originally so I tried to win the auction from them to see what happened. I won it for cheap $140. They started the bidding at 99 cents. They tried to make me pay more because they wished it had gone for more.
2 months later I get the costume. It is less than a pale representation of the original and I had to do major work to it in order to get it to be usable.
They are still selling this costume but you will not get what you have paid for believe me. Because I no longer have the original file ebay will not stand up for me on this issue.
Too many people have commented on this costume for me not to make this thread. Please be advised if you purchase from them. There is a reason they have not taken photos of the ones they actually make.

Re: Luxor Bazar on Ebay watch out.
I'm embarassed to say that this last summer I bid on this same costume and won it. I love the costume and received it in reasonable amount of time and without any problems from them. My only complaint is that the material is a little too stretchy so the hooks are set extra tight, then it loosens up the longer I have it on. I get tons of compliments with it. I wish I had known earlier that it was your photo as I would not have purchased it : (

Re: Luxor Bazar on Ebay watch out.
I don't trust any of the 'custom' costume sellers on e-bay. As far as I can tell, they're all using pictures of costumes that they DIDN'T make -- and aren't really capable of replicating. I got burned a couple of years ago, can't remember if it was this seller or someone else.
Now I'll only order custom from designers or retailers I'm familiar with.
If it seems too good to be true, it probably is, right?

Egads is right!

This is why when I do an Ebay search for costumes that I only search US location. I am hearing too many stories like this.
I am sorry to hear that Ebay, yet again, will not do anything about this. And their Resolution Center serves what purpose?

Re: Luxor Bazar on Ebay watch out.
I've been particularly aware of Luxor Bazar, probably because at one time they posted "for sale" a photo of a costume that I actually owned at the time and the photo was the exact same photo posted previously by the person I had bought it from.
I believe what they do is just grab photos of various nice-looking costumes from all over the internet for their auctions, then if someone wins an auction they make something up based on the photo.
I believe I have read somewhere about costume designers or vendors complaining and succeeding in getting specific listings with their costume photos withdrawn . . . but the seller still goes right on with the same general practice.
I just won't bid on e-bay on any costume that's not already made yet with complete size/measurement info on that existing costume.

Naughty Luxor! Thank you pointing this out Eshta! I have seen some other shop (can't remember the name) doing the same thing on eBay with Necklemann's. They are asking Necklemann prices, then you pay extra for shopping because they are in Australia. Duh! Yes, shop local for sure.
Um...nice work by the way. :-)

Re: Luxor Bazar on Ebay watch out.
I've actually bought this costume from them in red and it was ok....except wanted to charge me $20 for sleeves!
I did order another costume from them that looked like it had a slit...but was really just another bit of lycra...
They dont actually use proper lycra either...the sizing in the 2nd costume was slightly too big too

Re: Luxor Bazar on Ebay watch out.
I purchased a costume from them maybe a year or so ago. It was a not so great replica of the one in the photo. And it was ok until you get to the bottom skirt part and the chiffon or maybe not chiffon is so cheap it reminds me of something for like kiddie clothing. I was going to have someone so on some more appealing material at that part. But yeah they don't live up to what they advertise.

Re: Luxor Bazar on Ebay watch out.
Its the same stuff they make those Alexandrian Galabeyas that you can find on Ebay, from...Charmeuruse or however u spell that...not proper lycra at all. Its cheap almost transparent chiffon, polyester chiffon i think/
The straps on the bra have been sewn into the back, so that removing them means the stitches attaching some beading on the other side breaks and has to be redone...there was me on hands and needs trying to find all the seed beads on the carpet...and then trying to thread a beading needle....absolutely ridiculous.
They claim to be able to make any style...

Re: Luxor Bazar on Ebay watch out.
Just so you all know this costume was originally purchased at Mahmoud's for somewhere between $200-300 I think - you guys know how his prices are amazing! And it was certainly worth much more. It had a huge circle skirt with panels and side cutouts. So Luxor asking $400 and complaining about sleeves and then beads falling off when it arrives is just awful!

Re: Luxor Bazar on Ebay watch out.
This one I believe is a versace of cairo and was originally seen on turquoise international's website. I think Jillina has one. Professional Hand Made Belly Dance Costume From Egypt - eBay (item 310027244289 end time Jan-22-09 11:19:17 PST)
And this one I saw on Bhuz a while back I do believe:
Professional Belly Dance Costume From Egypt BELLYDANCE - eBay (item 150301702077 end time Feb-02-09 05:08:10 PST)
In fact I think it is up on the swap for sale.
I am not out to get this guy or anything it just chaps my butt to see hime stealing people's photos! And I have asked him numerous times to stop using mine!

Re: Luxor Bazar on Ebay watch out.

Well having never been to Mahmouds or Egypt...I will have to take your word for it...but he certainly has a great rep.
Hmm have paid more...and its of inferior quality...
I've not even worn the 2nd costume...too big...i received it with the zip cut...i mean they used a zip that was too long, cut the top...and then there was no actual zipper on it..
When I received them they were packed into two plastic bags from a street in Alexandria...from what appear to be lingerie producers...

Re: Luxor Bazar on Ebay watch out.
That second one is mine!! I had it up for sale, but since I didn't get any *immediate* interest, I've held on to it...I bought it off ebay probably 3 years ago, but it was not a custom - it was already made. I'm going to look into this now and see what the *f* they're up to!

Re: Luxor Bazar on Ebay watch out.
Weird business !.w.:
You know, the listing for the auction indicate :
The costume is custom made that means that we need your measurements in order to make the costume to fit your size, so you can choose the fabric color you want also the decoration color(beads – sequins – stones)
I've contacted him and here is the answer:
hi
these modification can be done if you purchase the costume from the shop with the shop price (350$) but for the auction price you can't make all these modification
After that i'm comming here to ask your experiences and i found this thread
Oh bhuz thank you !

Re: Luxor Bazar on Ebay watch out.
It's sad that pirated handbags/music/dvd's get busted all the time...but pirating costumes just gets a shoulder shrug. I've also started clicking the 'North America' location button to filter out the hordes of 'custom' costume listings.
Anyone have experience with these 'New Style' costumes coming out of China?

Re: Luxor Bazar on Ebay watch out.
I have often seen these costumes up on ebay and thought they look spectacular, plus the auction prices seemed great. However, what warned me was that every time they were up for sale, it was always the same picture. So I never bought one because I was afraid that the quality would be inferior to the pictures. Turns out I was right to be so wary. Thanks for the news flash! I am duly warned!
