I hear ya ladies, I was just saying. Of course you don't have to buy from them and they are trying to get what they paid for. Everyone is different.

Re: Overcharging for used items
That has always been a pet peeve of mine with Bhuz!
Before I make a purchase, I google, ebay, amazon and craigslist it to death to be sure I get a good price. But thats just me.

Re: Overcharging for used items
I've bought DVDs or VHS tapes online for $30-40 and then had them drop or go on sale for $10.
I don't think people are being dishonest or misleading. Maybe they're just trying to get some of their money back. It's not like you have to buy from them.
I've also seen someone sell costumes to another Bhuzzer and that Bhuzzer sell it for more money than she paid. But if the costume is worth it people will buy...

Re: Overcharging for used items
IMO, the only thing that determines the price of an item is what the market is willing to pay for it. I don't think it's disingenuous for a seller to set their price as what they are hoping to get for an item, as long as they realize it may never sell at that price. I think the onus is on the buyer to shop around, but obviously if you really want to sell something you'll price it competitively.
My MIL is trying to sell her house, and she simply will not drop the price despite the fact that their are many other houses in her neighborhood for sale that are not selling either. Her place needs a lot of upgrading for the price she's asking, but all she can see is the money her and FIL put into it while building it about 15 years ago. Since having her house on the market for a year, she has had 5 people come through, and no interest from any of them. She seems oblivious to the concept that something is only worth what another person is willing to pay for it.

Just a note, this was not about anyone I have bought from at all. So please don't think that.

Re: *
I did see where someone was selling a used ring for $10 that I know for a fact is $5 right now from Avon. I was tempted to post that in their thread but didn't. I don't feel very good about posting it when the seller probably did pay $10 originally and is possibly unaware how much the price has dropped since, but I also don't very good about NOT posting it when someone could get the item for less and brand new at that. So I don't know what to do in cases like that.

Just preference, I don't think it is right, but eh. what do I know.
I always check before I sell. Probably why my things sell. =) Probably why my house sold too and I took a loss with that, 2 years ago. But, needless to say, it didn't' take long either.
Nope it isn't wrong, but it isn't right either IMO. Oh well if you paid full price don't think the next guy isn't going to research the item before buying. I would say there are some people out there who don't. I have experienced it if I bid on EBAY. Oh well, mo money in my pocket.Last edited by bdaddiction; 08-14-2009 at 11:05 AM.

Re: Overcharging
Another thing to keep in mind with things like the swap meet is the value of relationships.
All other things being equal, I'd rather pay $5 more for something to a regular contributor on Bhuz, than save the $5 and buy it from an ebaying stranger or a mega discount retailer. Bargains rock, but so does building relationships and feeling like I'm giving a little back to the people who are helping to educate me!

Re: Overcharging
I believe it. I am new here.
I have heard some stories about it on other dancer forums. Seen it on EBAY though.
You do have to be a savvy shopper these days. Unless you have the money to help someone out then I guess it is okay. I hope they are on the same page though.

Re: Overcharging
lately, on an another forum, I've seen someone selling a costume for... let's say 360$ and then I've seen someone posting on the thread that it was a troup costume worn many times that they paid 280$ for it brand new... In first sight, I tought that there was some arguing between those two persons, she was hurting the sellers buisiness, but in the same time I felt like thanking the second poster for showing me the abuse...
