Angry Greyhound Package Express (GPX) don't do it *UPDATE*

Okay, so Greyhound isn't my first choice of transportation, but I was traveling with the kids so it was the only affordable option from Phoenix to Columbia, SC. Well, the Greyhound website said I could check 2 bags...when I got to the counter, that policy had changed to 1. So I was referred to the Package Express counter to "ship" my extra bag (which contains all of my tribal fusion assuit costuming, antique bracelets, my external hard drive with ALL my music on it)

So, $47 and 9 days later, still no bag. This was after I was told that it would arrive the same time I did. Now I'm being told that because this was a 'standard' shipment, they have no way to track it and it can arrive upwards of 14 days! ,m::

The last place I physically saw it was in Dallas. I called Dallas and they had a look 'round for me and didn't see it. Atlanta has been less than helpful and at this point, I'm willing to make the 4 hour drive and go look through their station for it.

Who knows if I'll EVER see my bag again - but save yourself the headache and AVOID GPX and if you have to do it, send it priority. What a painful lesson this has been.

    *UPDATE* October 20, 2010

After 2 1/2 months, I decided it was time to do a follow-up (no small feat being that I'm now in Japan). So I call them - they don't answer emails...already tried that several times - and spoke to a gentleman who asked if I had filed the claims form.

Me: Why, yes I have - with original receipts (as required) to boot, back in the second week of August.

Him: Well, I'm not seeing it here. Why didn't you just give it to the agent? Can you email it or fax it to me?

Me: Ummm. Your agent simply signed the forms, handed me a self addressed stamped envelope and said now go mail it. I'll see what I can do here on my end can I get your email address?

An hour later, I have all of my forms scanned (including the copies of the receipts) and have sent them off. I get an email response from him:

I have E-mail your claim information to one of our claim examiners here at the corporate office. I included my supervisor on the e-mail to make sure that this gets done for you.

    Thanks,

So we'll see what gets done. Please keep your fingers crossed that they find my stuff!

Oh no! Dreadful. Shipping by Greyhound sounds like an awful proposition anyway. How sleazy of them to change the policy to one bag after their information had said two.

That sucks that happened to you, I'm kinda surprised too, I shipped half my household goods on greyhound package express in two shipments of about 400 pounds total; dishes, glasses, clothes etc., from Portland Oregon to Massachusetts. It all got here in less than a week with no damage. Seriously. It's amazing the difference in quality of customer service and turn around time, I wonder if it's a regional thing?

In the past I utilized Greyhound but now rely on FedEx Ground. I am familiar with the disclaimers that rates are subject to change without notice so I frequently verify details.

OT - I read Spirit Airline started charging $45 one way for a carry-on bag that has to be stored in the overhead bin, effective 8/1/10. It will certainly expedite the loading and unloading process.

I was very comfortable with using GPX because I'd never had a problem with Greyhound before, but this has just been horrible - I can't even begin to explain how unhelpful customer service was - they just kept telling me 'It's in transit' and each time I called, I got a different arrival time frame.

I'm wondering if maybe because my shipment was just a piece of luggage, it just got misplaced somewhere....or worse ::shudder::

Wow Jen, what a hassle. :(

I keep hoping by some miracle your stuff is setting around somewhere and gets back to you. I hope you at least get your claim speedily handled. :D *hugs*
