Thread: Wire transfers to Egypt

I wired money to Egypt on 10/1/07. My bank says it takes 10 days for the wire to go through. At the same time I wired money to Turkey, it took only three days. So far the transfer for Egypt has not gone through. The vendor stated that he has gone to the bank three days in a row - it's been 15 days. I asked my bank to run a trace on the wire. No luck yet. Has anyone else had this problem? Does it eventually go through? I double checked the information from the vendor and everything seems correct. ..cr.:

I don't go through my bank. It's too expensive. Use moneygram or similar-at walmart for like $9.99-19.99ish depending on amounts plus its more reliable.

That's why I went through my bank, the charge was free.

Who do you bank with? I wire to Egypt pretty regularly thru Wamu and as long as it's done before 12 noon it gets there the next day and its always free.

Yeah, that's my bank and I did it at 11:00am and it's been 15 days.

Wow, that's really strange. Are you positive there's not a problem on the receiving bank's end? Have you wired this person before?

Also, I'm really curious, how does Wamu plan on dealing with this. Are they going to return your money since it was never retrieved?

I don't know. I hope they will. No, I've never sent money to this person before. They have a trace on the wire transfer and said it takes 48 business days till they get a response. I hope to get something on Monday - keep you posted ;)

It's receiving bank. Is his receiving account at Bank Misr? They are probably the only decent international bank in Egypt. Send him a jpg of the wire transfer from your end. Sometimes they need that to find it in their systems. It should only take about 48 hours to get a wire transfer through.
