Thread: Saroyan swords are listed Discontinued!

Hello all,

I finally decision to order a new sword and want to buy one from Saroyan. The websites lists them discontinued ! Does anyone have the scoop? Is this temporary or for real? What would you recommend instead for a high quality sword?

I just did the same thing, and I am so disappointed! I have 3 swords and have tried several others, and had just decided that this was going to be the one!

So sad! I suspect it has something to do with rising metal costs combined with the cheap replicas of this sword now available.

I have the same problem. I had sold my other sold because I was saving up for a Saroyan and found out I couldn't order when I went to the web site....so depressing.

I have handled (but don't own) the sword sold by Turquoise International, and it seems like a reasonably similar alternative.

I think the Fire by Riz swords are decent. Just get the one without the wick. They are balanced for dancing. I remember holding one at his stand years ago and it had a good weight and balanced.

I bought one (my whole troupe did) last fall, when I heard they were being discontinued, and I spoke with Harry Saroyan when I placed my order. He said that he just didn't want to keep making the swords at his age.

I agree that Turquoise's swords are very similar to Saroyans - I've seen them side by side at the Rakkasah booth and they are hard to tell apart, except for the balancing grooves on the Saroyan sword.
