    Re: Brighton Orient UK?

They are fairly local to me and I've known of them for several years. Maayan used to organise (awesome) dance festivals in Brighton and still puts on the occasional event, as well as vending.

I can't comment on practise wear, accessories etc. but I have several hipscarves, a circle skirt and matching veil, and a fabulous full costume from them. None of them were cheap, but they are more than decent quality IMO and I'm a happy customer. I've been to a few of Maayan's sales, and she's always had a good stock in.

I've never ordered on-line so don't know how well that works.

    Wink Re: Brighton Orient UK?

Hi. I used this vendor in January to order several pieces. They arrived within a week and were fine. I then needed a more ornate bra and belt set for performance. I saw what I wanted online, called Brighton Orient to see if it was available. I was recommended another set which they had in stock, of similar colour and style but in what they said was a more suitable size. I ordered this set on their advice, without first trying as they knew my measurements from a previous bra/belt I had bought at one of their events.
When the set arrived I found the bra cups to be huge
(at least a GG - I am an F).I was shocked as previous set had been a good fit.

.. when I called to see if they would make the necessary alterations they said they didn't want to as it would cost me more with a lot of going back and forth. But I ended up having to use a seamstress who was clearly unenthusiastic about this kind of work and I had to pay extra in any case.
    So:
    1. I do feel I should've been allowed to visit the showroom to try before buying as I requested. They were unwilling to do this for some reason and,

    2. I feel they should have at least have offered to do the alterations for me like it says on their website. It would have saved me a visit to a surly local seamstress who would rather be doing wedding dresses.
I really had to insist she did the work properly.

I was left feeling that Brighton Orient implied they had far too many more important clients than me, to let me visit the showroom. I also feel they didn't fulfil their statement on their website about undertaking any alterations for me. In addition I also had this hunch that they had "palmed off" an end of linę costume at a discount which they would have had difficulty selling otherwise. They said they had someone else interested but I wasnt sure. This set is classic American cabaret style and that is not so much in fashion in the UK right now. Everyone here is dying and sighing for simple bra/straight skirt sets a la Modern Cairo style.
Moral of the story? Well, maybe being assertive enough to insist on trying before buying, or it's no go.

Yes, definitely go and see the showroom first - Mayaan is usually really keen for people to do this so I'm surprised they were unwilling in Terpischora's case. Maybe she was just off to Cairo or something...

The quality of the stock is usually very good, but be aware that Mayaan is a very ahem, enthusiastic saleswoman. But she's also very helpful and very patient if you go and see her.

She also lives in the most beautiful place in the countryside - totally idyllic.

    I'd certainly recommend them.
