    Unhappy Sharifwear's Shipping is EXPENSIVE!

    Argh! Just venting here, folks....

I LOVE Sharifwear's items--especially their pants and tie tops. But wow! Their shipping is prohibitively expensive!

For instance: today they're having a 25% off sale! YAY, right?! The pants I've been looking at forever are now $39. But the shipping is over $11!

Two things--first, I can't believe that it costs $11 to ship a pair of pants; and second that shipping is over 25% of the price! Well, I guess it's like not buying the pants on sale and having free shipping, right???

I'm passing... again... One of these days I'll buy those pants.... I'm keeping my fingers crossed I find them on the Swap Meet! Sigh.

I totally agree! I was going to order a $25 blouse from them last month, and the original shipping price quoted was $14. I emailed and then they said $10. Still too expensive for a blouse that you could ship for $4.95 priority, and less than that for a business.

So I bought from Dahlal instead. I wonder how many customers they've lost because of high shipping rates?

They definitely lost me a while ago. I'm not paying $14 shipping for pants that could be shipped in a usps priority mail envelope for $6... especially when I can buy their simpler pants from a SLC retailer for the same web price sans shipping.

It's a shame, because they have really nice practice wear.

Love Sharifwear too, but the shipping to Europe is often 30$ - 40$ and more
    That's just way too much!

To Australia, it is around 40 plus, makes buying from them just not feasible.

Same with Melodia Designs. When the shipping is almost the same price as the pants... I am lucky that I can buy some items from other local dancers because there is no way I will pay 100$ (including shipping but not import fees) for a pair of pants that I will wear only to class.

I did purchase from Sharifwear this time around. The 25% discount made it so that with the shipping to Canada the overall price was in line with what local studios are charging for Sharifwear (but items they don't have in stock), but I don't think they have had this kind of sale before. If they did, I might purchase more often. (provided I found pants in their line that have rises fit for an actual human body. When the rise of your poants is so high that you can stretch your pant's wiast over your head....)

I guess it's a little off-topic, but this thread made me feel like venting about the same problem with Victoria's Secret. More than once I've spent time online accumulating a stack of lovely sale items in my "cart," only to delete the entire order due to the feeling of being ripped off after seeing the extra "handling" charges in addition to the shipping cost of each item. (I'm in California)

I can understand that a business tries to budget by charging for more than just the net postage, but rather for the overall cost of shipping by including some sort of "overhead". However, in this case, it works against the vendor, and a different pricing strategy could make everybody happier. Maybe it could be useful if potential buyers constructively express their sentiments?

Although this probably isn't helpful for overseas shoppers I know of a GA and a FL vendor that usually stocks an assortment of SharifWear. The GA vendor is www.belediboutique.com (she advertises on Bhuz), and In Step Studio - Multi cultural Dance Studio, Tallahassee, Florida. Contact Lacy/GA or Nancy/FL re which items they have in-stock. If they do not have the items you want maybe they could include your items in their next order. Both are reliable vendors and totally fair. I am certain there's lots of others that rep for SharifWear but I am not aware of their names.

To ship a tie-top & trumpet skirt, Dahlal.com wants $15.95, which also seems a bit high. Their pricing structure for shipping is based on the cost of your items, which I is realize is easier for them to set up than it would be to go by item weight. But it does make me hesitate when I reach that stage of the buying process.

That is steep shipping. I would check the website or ask the vendor prior to ordering. An overall shipping price structure is easier for the vendor but that ratio does not allow for lightweight items. A shipping envelope is easier and cheaper than a box. If available I would certainly ask for the envelope fee.

A few years ago Moondance charged me $23-$24 for shipping some items. I thought "Wow, that stuff must take up a lot of room!". But it arrived in a $4.95 Priority envelope. Needless to say that was outrageous and I haven't ordered from them since. They may seem to have good prices on items, but they really stick it to you with shipping so those prices really aren't so great after all.

I would have emailed them and told them that you would not be buying from them since what they charged you for shipping was so much higher than what it actually cost them. You might have gotten a refund if you were polite about. Even if you didn't if enough people followed suit the practice might change.

I once ordered a single CD from Dahlal over the phone. The person helping me said, "And your shipping will be... $X. Well, that seems a bit high for one CD! I think we can do better than that." And she fixed it. They can do this much more easily "in person" than on a website, that's for sure.

Good point. Might be an issue for international shoppers, though. Either way, unless I am at an event where SharifWear is being sold I do not even look at items on line. I am a funky size so it's best for me to try-on items. But once I know my size in specific products I would not hesitate to order from either BelediBoutique or InStepStudio. Not always so easy for people in other countries, calling would incur even more fees. Might be negotiable via email but not certain. IMO it would be worth an attempt.
