I'm not sure if I'm doing this right as I'm not a well versed bhuzzer yet. I may also fall into the "where the heck have YOU been" category for posting this, but I just had to. I found this animated video that addresses just about every single "are you kidding me" element of talking to people about gigs. I think I'll post this on my website as a question answerer/educational resource for people who are thinking of hiring a belly dancer.

I'm not sure I would do that. It's a fine satire for us on the inside, but I would worry that it might make a potential customer think you were starting from the premise that they were a clueless moron, like the character in the clip. You don't always know who's coming to your site. The people looking to hire you could be far more knowledgeable about ME culture than you are, but if they aren't familiar enough with the interior workings of the dance community, they won't get the joke.

And speaking honestly, one dancer to another, this clip is an exaggeration on both sides. Not only is the customer an idiot, but I'd be wary of any dancer who was so vocally and stridently self-righteous about being a "professional." I feel very strongly that professionalism in conduct should apply to everybody who ties on a hip scarf, whether they gig or not, but at least in my experience, the web sites that are full of blab about how much more "professional" and "qualified" this dancer is than everybody else often belong to the dancers who lack the performance skills to back all that big talk up. Real professionals don't have to make the tent pole of their advertising pitch how "professional" they are, because everything else they present about themselves already demonstrates that they're mature, ethical, knowledgeable, and talented performers.

If you have a private/passworded area for students on your site, you could put the clip there for discussion, but I don't think it's a good marketing tool. BTW, when Nabila made the clip, she started a thread on it here http://www.bhuz.com/rest-belly-dance...ly-dancer.html.

I agree with Tourbeau.

It might offend some that come to your website.
