Thread: Just want to share!

I just got a video back from a performance I did with my fledgling Dance Company back in May.

I'm just insanely proud of this one, and emotional about it, for a couple of reasons.

#1) My mother died last year in August. She wasn't a dancer, but she was a fan of all forms of dance, including bellydance. She encouraged me to go to my first class and was always very proud of my dancing. She was my toughest critic and my biggest supporter. This particular show would have been 'the big time' in her eyes. My troupe shared a stage with the local ballet, Indian dance, and modern dance troupes she'd had season tickets to for years and the show took place at a prestigious local university. I can't think about this performance without grieving a little that she didn't live to see it, and at the same time being very happy to know how proud she would have been to me.

#2) This is truly my work and a reflection of me. I choreographed it, structured the improv in the middle, selected the props and costumes (with approval from the Company members).

#3) This troupe is made up of dancers I taught from day one who've been with me for years. They are some of my best friends and I'm so damned proud of them.



No critique on this one yet, please, I'm still too tender... in a few months I'll welcome it, I'm sure!

Very nice! I especially loved the invisible waves concept (not sure how else to describe it) during Alf Layla, and the drum solo. Very unique and dynamic, I enjoyed watching it and I'm usually not a fan of group drum solos!

Really well done; love the dynamic staging, and the way it allowed for group cohesion and for eveveryone to have their own little moments. Really loved the dramatic entrance between the wings for Alf Leyla
