Another live show! Sit El Hosn. Plus youtube copyright message.

I just posted another live video. Typically, when I post a video, I like to name the songs used.

This time I got this message: Your video, Norma, Detroit Belly Dancer, Live Band, Sit El Hosn , may include content that is owned or administered by these entities:
•Entity: Music Publishing Rights Collecting Society Content Type: Musical Composition

I've never gotten a copyright message before when using a video with live music. I'm figuring they must have just gotten the information from my naming the music?

Mebbe if you spelt it Syt Al Hosyn the copyright screening droid would pass it by.

ANYWAY . . . love the video. Probably more than any of the other gadjillion videos on YouTube of dances to, and musical performances of, Set/Sitt/Sit El/Al Hosn/Hosen/Hussan/Hosin!

I was spoiled by having really great musicians to work with. The drummer, used to be one of the drummers for Nadia Gamal. He is an excellent drummer when it comes to working WITH a dancer. He FOLLOWS me!

Oh me too..What happened exactly? Is it economics? Bands just can't make any money any more? are there just less Arabic musicians around? I'm sure that's a complicated question but it's just so heartbreaking that I can't just go out and listen to a live band and watch a skilled dancer perform a 45 minute set any more...

Well I think it is a combination of things. I know in Detroit, it was getting very expensive for the club owners to bring in singers from overseas. There were local singers but the big name clubs, brought in crowds by bringing in big name singers. As people got older, their kids became more Americanized and going to a club wasn't the thing for them to do. They wanted to do American things. Around the same time, the casinos came in and a lot of the big spenders preferred spending time in the casinos. Then just generally, people moved away from live music and went to dj. Remember the old movies of the 40s and 50's with the big bands and supper clubs? All that went away too. The advent of the drum machine really changed the music industry and the need for having live musicians.

It is so sad. It was an amazing time to be dancing. And I came in at the tail end of it.

    Hi Norma

Its not really a copyright claim but a notice that a music publishing rights collecting society will be collecting royalties from YouTube. The content sweep is done by computer, no human input.

This is a hot topic amongst video game developers. Here's a very informative post from another forum:

"Music Publishing Rights Collecting Society is a generic term relating to collecting societies in general. They don’t specify which. (e.g. ASCAP, BMI, etc,) They collect royalties for artist and labels (like WMG or Sony). There are many music publishing collecting rights societies and you have no way of knowing which one is making the claim. Until you know how to contact them you cannot correct the error and they can continue collecting royalties falsely.

The performance of an amateur playing a public domain piece, if fixed in a tangible medium (e.g. video recording), is automatically copyrighted by the performer. That performer may assign some of his rights to a collecting society or he may not. Even if he does not the collecting society may claim that he has and collect royalties."

Another poster said that a YT site would only get a 'strike' when someone submits a DMCA against your video. Youtube will immediately take your content down and give you a strike until the matter is resolved. The "companies" like Music Publishing Rights Societies don't want you to take your content down, they want you to keep it up so they can earn revenue off of the content that you created. When they place this notice on your video content they start earning revenue right away with the googleads that are placed on your video. The notice also makes it so you cannot earn revenue off of your own video content.
