Hi everyone!
I thought I would post this to share with you all. The first and only time I've ever fallen on stage! Of course, not a little trip or stumble - nope I went kerflop! After a moment of being stunned (how did I get on the floor?) I started laughing and got up. The audience was awesome. And this is a case where the recovery is what impressed people, showing that recovering from mistakes with grace is more important than being perfect. :) Enjoy and have a giggle!

Re: Sharing My Blooper!
Great recovery, staying poised makes the audience forget all about the blooper because they are caught up in your performance.
I fell in a performance once. I had discarded my silk veil, the stage was highly polished wood, and I accidentally stepped on the veil. I was down so fast! I landed on my side in a nice lay-out. My eyes got really wide, I smiled, and did a little floorwork! I didn't get any bruises or injuries of any kind, it happened so fast that I didn't tense up, I guess. Most of the audience didn't even know it was a blooper (dancers did know).Belly Dance to the Music of Americanistan

Re: Sharing My Blooper!
Sorry you learned this one "the hard way"! Yikes!
Always discard your veil well away from your dance space. If it floats back into your dance space, either move away from it or move the veil - because if you're too close to that veil on the floor; the audience will STOP watching your dance, and will watch your veil instead. They instinctively know...
As for the OP: Very fast and graceful recovery! Do you know what happened?

Re: Sharing My Blooper!
Great performance! Absolutely stunning, all of it, you recovered really well. Will you whack me if I say that I think you opened up really nicely after that blooper? Suddenly you were smiling even more and really beaming, I think.
Who made that costume?

Re: Sharing My Blooper!
Awesome recovery! This might sound a little weird, but I also thought you danced better after your extremely graceful recovery. As Kjesta said, you seemed to open up somehow. In any case it was a very fun dance to watch. Thank you for sharing!

The most elegant recovery I've ever seen - now if I can only figure out how to do it without hurting myself.

Re: Sharing My Blooper!
Yea, it sure does! All we can do is get back up, and keep dancing!
The teacher who taught me about the dangers of slipping on veils had literally JUST re-iterated this during a class. A short break ensued, I turned around to say something to a dance sister and WHUMP! on the floor immediately behind me. Sure enough, it was my teacher who had just slipped on her veil - thank Goddess she was OK! Like you, she sure knew better but it happened anyway!

Nefabit, thank you so much for posting this! I was afraid to watch it, and it took me a few tries to get to the point of the "blooper", I was that nervous. You did an awesome job on the recovery (and the whole of your performance!); if you hadn't pointed out that it was a fall, it might very well have gone unnoticed. What an inspiration you are!

Re: Sharing My Blooper!
Hi everyone!
Wow, thank you all so much for your lovely comments! I was blushing as I read.
You're definitely right, I also think I danced better after falling. I was so exhausted by the time I got to that solo - I was in 12 pieces in the show, literally about every other piece so even when I wasn't onstage I was running down the stairs to the dressing room and changing as fast as humanly possible lol. I was also having heart palpitations due to being exposed to food dye, which I am allergic to. So getting that boost of encouragement was great, and the extra adrenaline from falling really helped me get going!
Bella made my costume :)
Dunyah, thank you for sharing your story as well! It's always nice to know you're not the only one haha. I too, have had the veil creep up on me. Just last week at my restaurant job I discarded my veil to the side of my space and somehow it ended up right behind me! Didn't slip on it but I had to do the toe grab and rhonde de jambe to flip it out of the way. :p
Again, thank you all so much. I'm glad you enjoyed the performance, too! :)

Re: Sharing My Blooper!
I bought a beautiful arm cuff for a performance with coins dangling off it. It worked out okay in my practice, but one stage, it loosened and loosened until it fell off! I actually managed to catch it and I watch doing arm movements at the time anyway! However I recently performed with it again (for the last time, mind you!) and as I did a turn it flew off to the side of stage! Lucky it didn't hit an audience member!
